Student First Aid

Detail your services

This is a skill and knowledge-based programme that every young person should attend. It can be delivered at school or in the community ie community groups, scouts, etc. Learning how to provide first aid care will help to save lives. it is geared towards students of 11+ years of age.

It has been developed to coincide with health education lessons taught in secondary schools, following the Government's announcement to make health education compulsory from September 2020. It fulfils the requirements of the Department for Education in respect of first aid training. Not only would secondary schools meet the  statutory requirements for health education, but students would also  have the opportunity to attain a nationally regulated qualification,  enhance their CV and develop new life skills.

The key outcomes are as follows:

  • What is First Aid?
  • Primary Survey
  • Recovery Position
  • Resuscitation and use of an AED
  • Dealing with a Choking Casualty
  • Common injuries including head injuries, wounds and bleeding, bruises, minor burns and scalds, fractures, dislocations, sprains and strains.

There are two options available :-

A regulated and certified course comprising of three hours contact time which on successful completion will give the candidate a level 2 award in Student First Aid. This can be conducted in one session or in three, one-hour sessions, within 12 months. The qualification is valid for three years and is assessed through written and practical assessments. Each student will receive a copy of the Student First Aid handbook and on successful completion will receive a level 2 Certificate in Student First Aid.

The second option is a non-regulated course which would provide the candidate with a certificate of attendance only. This could be conducted in three or more hours with no set minimum time for each session. This does not provide any academic qualification by going down this route but is obviously a cheaper route for organisations with a limited budget. To keep the cost down, the students do not receive an individual handbook, unless specified at time of booking the course, but will receive a certificate of attendance.
